EcoSpirits has developed a more sustainable packaging system for the spirits industry to solve the problem of single-use glass bottles. The solution is based on the reuse of packaging. 

The startup, which has been active for six years, launched a reusable packaging system in partnership with Singapore's Raffles Hotel in 2018. Today, EcoSpirits operates in 25 countries and has over 1,000 partner bars, restaurants and hotels, including renowned brands such as Diageo, Pernod Ricard and Rémy Cointreau.

EcoSpirits CEO Paul Gabie says the biggest challenge is to find globally applicable reuse solutions. In concrete terms, EcoSpirits enables its partner brands to ship their spirits in reusable containers (ecoTotes). Bars then fill reusable glass bottles from these containers using an automated pouring system (SmartPour). To clean and fill the containers, EcoSpirits sets up local processing centers (ecoPlants) and provides a cloud-based software platform (CircularOne) to manage the entire process. This system could reduce carbon emissions linked to the packaging and distribution of spirits and wines by 60-90%.

EcoSpirits recently launched operations in the United States, and plans to extend its reach to other states and regional markets, as well as to countries such as Canada, Denmark, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
