Plastic packaging can devalue a brand's perceived quality.

August 2, 2022

Plastic packaging can devalue a brand's perceived quality.

Brand owners are going to have to use plastic-free packaging to avoid harming the planet and their brand image.

In the past 12 months, about 75% of consumers recycled their waste and 64% of them limited the amount of single-use plastic they use. Consumer behavior is becoming more and more respectful of the planet.

As a result, brands will have to make major changes to eliminate plastic as packaging. Indeed, a brand that has a high quality product, but is not ethical, sustainable or at least recognized as trying to be, will lose value.

73% of consumers admit that they are willing to pay more for sustainable packaging, a number that would rise to 83% among young people. As a result, some brands are innovating by using fibre (like barley straw) for secondary packaging.

This change needs to happen faster, as consumer perception impacts business performance. If companies don't do this, they risk losing valuable consumers.
