The spirits sector has seen strong growth in 2021, driven by the gradual reopening of restaurants and the increased price of premium spirits. Pre-mixed cocktails, Tequila and Mezcal are among the fastest growing spirits.

Nearly 82% of the total spirits revenue increase came from sales of premium spirits brands. Tequila was a major driver of this growth, accounting for nearly one-third of the total increase in spirits revenue. 

U.S. supplier sales grew 12 percent in 2021 to a total of $35.8 billion. Spirits gained market share in the overall U.S. alcoholic beverage market. This is the 12th consecutive year of market share gains for all spirits.

The top 5 spirits categories by revenue are: 

• Vodka sales up 4.9 %
• Tequila/Mezcal: up 30.1 %
• Whiskey: up 6.7 %
• Brandy & Cognac: up 13.1 %
• Cordials: up 15.2 %

The enthusiasm for spirits continued last year, with consumers spending more to enhance their cocktail experience with super premium brands. Strong growth in ready-to-drink spirits products was also seen, also contributing to the sector's growth
