What is the new generation of whisky drinkers looking for?

What is the new generation of whisky drinkers looking for?

Taste and quality are important to whisky drinkers - but what attracts them?

In the UK, the product information platform "Vypr" asked whisky drinkers what they want to see more of.

Premium quality.

Despite the pressures of inflation and economic uncertainty, overall, most premium whisky drinkers expect their consumption in 2023 to be similar to 2022.

74% of respondents with incomes below £18,000 said taste and quality were most important, while 48% said price was important.

An appetite for change?

Among the youngest generation of whisky drinkers (18-24), some said they wanted more access to samples to help them develop their taste and understanding of whisky. Nearly a third (34%) also want whiskey to be more flavored, including honey and caramel flavors. The same is true for 35-54 year olds, who also choose flavored products and more sample sizes. Those 55 and older seem much more satisfied with their current products.

Non-whisky drinkers willing to try whisky-based drinks.

But how can whiskey producers attract non-whiskey drinkers? The burgeoning canned cocktail category could provide the answer.

Vypr asked non-whiskey drinkers if they would be tempted to try whiskey during the summer months: 40% of respondents said yes if whiskey was part of a cocktail.
